Winter Quarter of Sophomore Year

Pandemic Beginnings - Winter 2020

Winter 2020 started out like any other quarter: lacking sleep, difficult classes, and studying day and night. It sure ended differently though. As the world realized a new virus was going global, I was in Seattle, Washington, studying for my next biology and organic chemistry exam. To get you up to date: Coronavirus (COVID-19) began in the Wuhan Region of China and quickly spread around the globe with the first case in the United States being in Seattle, Washington. In the week leading up to everything being cancelled, I went to a Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament (we won!), volunteered at the hospital, took two exams, and went to my first concert (Prince Royce, a Spanish Artist). I had unknowingly just traversed the city that would become the first epicenter in the United States. One week later, all classes were moved online for, what would become, the rest of the year. I remember watching the news with my dad during the first few days of 2020, and him saying, "one of these viruses will go global, we just have to wait and see if this is the one." Three months later, I am sitting in my house surrounded by only family and Facetiming friends while we play Yahtzee. There is a lot of stress during this time, people worry about their loved ones and themselves dieing or staying alone in their house for days on end. However, for me, I am surrounded by my amazing family and we are content playing games. My sister and I have decided to learn sign language and take up running. I am reading more and we are watching a Modern Family Marathon. There is not much else to report, but I am positive and hopeful that this will all blow over soon and we will have a great Spring Quarter.
